An “a” instead of “e’, makes Reel to Real Life...
Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter - (Ki-duk-kim as Adult Monk, Jae-kyeong Seo as the Boy Monk, Yeo-jin-ha as The Girl, and Yeong-su-oh as Old Monk), Release 2003, Director – Ki-duk-kim)
Story Review – The movie revolves around each stages in a mans life associated with each season. No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow. Spring calls for a celebration after a long, harsh winter. Spring signifies rebirth and renewal. (A young boy, who commits mistakes unknowingly). After all no one would want to lead a loveless life. Life is beautiful because we can find love in it, and its not enough to just find love, we need to share it with others (The boy grows up. Love and lust covers his mind in his teen age), Fall/ Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower. For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad. (The teenager commits a mistake)
Since 90% of the movie revolves around a mans approach and feelings towards life, dialogues are very minimal. (May be, if it was evolving around a women’s life the dialogues would have been more) Forgetting, (Oh Sang-man - Art Director) and (Baek Dong-hyeon – Cinematographer) will be sinful if not appreciated. Such colorful, pleasant and beautiful scenes are presented to ones eyes that will make every viewer astonish, does such magnificence exist?
The director himself has acted as an adult monk. Probably to ensure the essence of the movie is not lost.
